The state of Arunachal Pradesh is extremely rich in forest cover as well as biodiversity. It is also home to a number of major ethnicities which since time immemorial have been dependent on these forests. Due to its highly diverse floral and faunal species, the state is recognized as an important eco-region in the world biogeographic space.
Kamlang tiger reserve is located around the eastern most areas of the state and was notified as a tiger reserve in 2017. The main community living around this reserve is the Mishmi tribe. The park is home to a large number of flora and faunal species among which some are endemic to the region. It is also interspersed with an intricate network of rivers and water bodies.
In this context, a pictorial hand book indicating the flora and fauna of the reserve will bring more awareness among the people. It will also help conservation efforts of the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change. This book will also generate an inquisitiveness about the species diversity and the ethnic group, the Mishmi community, among the tourists who visit Kamlang tiger reserve while also providing livelihood opportunities to the local community.
I whole-heartedly applaud the initiative of the Field Director of Kamlang Tiger reserve and her team to bring out the publication of the book, “Kamlang Tiger Reserve - At a Glance”.
Best wishes for the endeavor.
